Assembling Your
Berkey Water Filter System

Lid Assembly
Remove the knob washer(3) and knob screw(4) from insideB the lid knob(1). Fit the knob onto the lid(2) by inserting the knob screw(4) with the knob washer(3), up through the hole in the lid and screwing on the knob. (Hand tighten only)

Black Berkey Filter
Installation
Place an element washer(7) onto the stem of a primed Black Berkey Element(6). Insert the stem of the Black Berkey Element(6) into a hole within the upper chamber(5). Thread the element wing nut(8) onto the stem of the Black Berkey Element(6) below the upper chamber and tighten securely by hand. Repeat previous steps until all Black Berkey Elements have been installed.

Fluoride Filter
Installation (Optional)
Remove upper chamber(5) from filtration system and place it upside down on a counter so that the stems of the Black Berkey elements(6) are facing upward. With the water flow-arrow pointing away from the upper chamber screw the Fluoride Filters(7) onto the stems of each Black Berkey element eight full revolutions. Do not screw on more than eight revolutions as this may damage the internal media screen. Replace the upper chamber onto the lower chamber (the Fluoride Filters should now be hanging inside the lower chamber).

Filling Your Berkey
When filling your Berkey for the first time, we recommend filling it completely and discarding the first batch of water. This is to ensure that there is no residual dust left in the filter after priming. After the first batch, we advise filling your Berkey up fully everytime you refill it. This is to make sure that the entire filter stays saturated and filtering properly.
