Great Tasting Water

I’ve been wanting to get the Berkey for a long time. Our daughter has one and I love the way my body just absorbs the water. It tastes great and I know it’s better for me. I finally got one after we had a kitchen remodel and figured out where to put it. It’s one of the best things I could have done for my health.

needs much better packaging to protect the product.....

It works very well but it came with several dents and bends on the body...

Been using a Berkey for years

We got this larger Berkey because we were always adding water to the smaller one . Now that our city water has way more chlorine in it than it did before , and all the well water in our area is polluted , we got the Imperial Berkey . As with the smaller one , this one works excellent also .

Should be standard to include flouride filters

I truly don't understand why this company doesn't include the flouride filters in all the kits. You know that is a MAIN reason for homeowners to get this and we have to add it to the cart!? Come on, you have recouped ALL of your R&D cost, you can start adding them to all intro kits without loosing money.A British company established (by a royal) in 1901(!!!!!) and then setup a distribution center in the US in 1998 (!!!!!) has more than recouped invention, shipping, material cost, and you're not inventing anything new, so just include the freaking filters as a standard in all kits.Stop being stupid greedy, and be smart greedy.

Imperial Berkey

Just set it up yesterday and went through the steps, overall very easy, I had a challenging time priming the filters, until I watched a youtube vid and then went easy and fast. I am not a water snob :) but love the idea that you can take any fresh water source (especially in an emergence situation) and it will filter for human consumption. And that two filters will last 6,000 gallons, that to me is impressive, though the filters are rather spendy, that is worth it to me. It was larger then I was imagining, and does use up counter space, if you don't already have a designated space.

Filtered Water

Our household was using a Brita for years, then we graduated to this. This, the larger size, is kind of difficult to lift up and see how much water is the holding area, but other than that, we like it because it cuts out a lot of impurities and chemical taste from tap water and makes great drinking water. Does take up a bit of counter space, but its chrome surface makes it fit in with kitchen metals and accents.I love the simple tap, also. Doesn't leak.

Small improvements would make it worth the cost

The berkey water filter has a great taste and clears out a lot of the pollutants left in my tap water. I had the water tested at a local college lab and the quality was very good. Only issues was installation of the filters. Purging the filters was difficult with my sink. The only improvement would be a metal spigot. The plastic one is very cheap for the price of the product.

Best water, easy to use

A bit pricey but then again for health I tend to pay. I did find a good deal here and what I paid seemed to be better than most. The water is excellent and it filters must faster than I thought it would if you fill the top container at least half way. Since its gravity fed less water will equal slower filtering. I only have two black filters and so far so good for a base family of 3 with visitors ever day. I fill up the top container at least twice a day and i always have water. I was worried it wud be a pain to up keep but it's super simple. The set up is super easy. I did only have it for several months so I'm not sure how hard cleaning will be but so far so good

Great tasting water from a system that saves time and money!

After seeing one in action (and tasting the excellent filtered water) at a friends house, we purchased this Berkey filter system. After doing a lot of research on current brands of water filtration systems it was obvious that Berkey was the best for our needs. We drink a lot of water in our house (2 adults and 2 kids active in sports) and it was always a chore to refill the small, old filtered water pitcher repeatedly throughout the day. Now, we fill the Berkey at night and have pure water for all of the next day. It’s really easy to set up and maintain but the greatest feature besides the water taste is the cost savings in “pitcher filters” that we no longer have to buy. The chrome finish looks great in our kitchen too.The only issue I found is that the filters can be a little hard to prime before use on a pull-down style of water faucet. However, Berkey has a free easy prime attachment (available on their website) that fits most faucets and makes it way easier.

Worth it so far.

Expensive...but IF it holds up to its promises it’s going to be cheaper than using pitchers and their filters. Our tap water smells like it’s coming from a swimming pool. Our pitcher filters couldn’t keep up with the chlorine level. This filter/purifier has been great so far (couple of months in). The water tastes like NOTHING the way it should. It can take up to 6 black filters and process a LOT of water quickly. Even with only two we have plenty of clean tasteless water available for drinking, cooking and pet needs.NOTE: If you don’t mind a scratch/dent version, go for it. I feel you’d be able to pop out the dent(s) most of the way and the performance isn’t affected by the dent(s).

great filter

after two exchanges due to scratches on the stainless and some leakage issues because I was afraid to over tighten and strip the lame plastic nut on the Water Filter Water View Spigot that I bought separately this thing is amazing, just pored tap water in and in the morning the bottom was full, so every night before I go to bed I fill up the difference, you cant fill the top half all the way every time or it will overflow. Other than it's a royal pain to set up, and I'm a very hands on handy person, it' does the job very well. The water tastes amazing, we use to drink Crystal Geyser which was the best tasting bottled spring water I could find, and we can taste the difference.

Love Our Berkey!!!

Our water is horrible in the town where I live. It is amazing to have water taste sooooo much better. I drink so much water now, and coffee tastes wonderful when made with Berkey water. I feel so much safer, too, with the chemicals filtered out of our city water. I will say that I had a little trouble getting the water to bubble as stated (during the installation process). I even had to un-install and go through the entire process three times to get the water to bubble on the outside of the black filter. So, if you notice your water flows VERY slowly into the lower chamber, you might need to go through the installation process again and really flush out those filters.

Great filter for any situation

I chose this filter because I needed a unit that would function anywhere and without electricity, needed no "plumbing" (my personal nightmare), have high ratings on filtration of most unwanted particles (heavy metals, etc.), and would be affordable, that is, not have to have frequent filter replacement added to the price tag. The Imperial Berkey meets these requirements very well.Initial set-up was a bit more tricky, since I chose 2 filters and had to plug 4 extra holes with plastic screws (they needed extreme tightening to prevent leakage, which took some messing with), but overall straightforward due to a good instruction sheet. We've been using the water for a couple of weeks now and it's been very good, although our well water was pretty decent already. It gives me peace of mind knowing that now it's really cleaned up, no matter what our well water might do in the future. One suggestion for first-time buyers would be the investment in a water level indicator (I bypassed that and will order one asap), since it's easy to forget to check the water level in the lower container (you have to lift out the top with the filters) and overflow the unit. Once the level indicator is installed, it should be no problem. Overall, I highly recommend this unit as a first-rate and user-friendly filtration system.

pure clean drinking water-- tastes great, less filling

My wife and I drink more water now. It even tastes better--or rather, you can notice the lack of metals and chemicals. We are super happy that we got this and we recommend this to everyone. My only quibble with it is that because of the positioning of the spout (it's not at the very bottom), not all of the filtered water can pour through the spout. So there is always some water left over. However, this just gets mixed in with the filtered water eventually. It took about 2 days for setup and priming. There is just 2 of us using this, and we have to refill it every other day. It works out perfect.HINT: we bought a little rolling stand/cart which it sits on top. When we need to fill it, we just roll it over to the sink. Our facet has a pullout spray nozzle which can extend and reach the Berkey. Super easy to fill and no mess.

Berkey Water Filters

I ordered the Big Berkey system and received the British Berkefeld. After calling the shipper, I was assured that the units were virtually identical and that the situation in Haiti had impacted the available units. Since I live in an area where the water is fluoridated, my goal was to rectify the situation. I've read enough about fluoride to know it is quite harmful and it is not necessary for the human body. Relative to the use of the unit itself, I have been extremely pleased with the quality of the water and I recommend it for anyone who desires safe, clean-tasting water.

All I can say is wow!!!

I have been researching Big Berkey water systems for some time before I decided to make the purchase since it was so pricey but the bottle water investment was getting ridiculous. I refused to drink tap water since finding out what is actually in our water supply (arsenic, sodium flouride, heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, uranium, etc.)you can look it up in your home town and see the levels of it through the EPA website. The Big Berkey is just amazing not only does it purify amazingly but the taste beats any bottled water you can buy and im very picky with bottled water. Its so satisfying to know that know matter how compromised my tap water becomes I will always have the cleanest best tasting water anywhere.I urge everyone to do your own research and you will see for yourself how amazing this product is, the Red Cross and the World Health organization use Big Berkeys. Make sure you get the one with 2 flouride filters and do a google search on sodium flouride you will see it causes cancer, bone disease, nerve damage and a host of other dangerous side effects. Flouride is the main reason i got this unit since it is added to the water supply statewide and no I do not work for Big Berkey im just excited that im not paying $80 a month for water that isn't even as good as this!
