I have found Berkey to be an excellent filter, everything I have put through it has ...

I purchased the Crown Berkey last year, and since then 90% of what I have drank has gone through a Berkey filter. I have found Berkey to be an excellent filter, everything I have put through it has come out tasting excellent. This includes sketchy well water that may or may not have gone through a reverse osmosis filter. This summer I have done a lot more traveling, and needed a way to get filtered water on the road without carrying around gallons and gallons of pre-filtered water. Enter the Go Berkey. I considered the Travel Berkey, but wanted something a little more compact in case I had to get on an airplane. The Go Berkey comes with the upper chamber, the filter and everything needed to attach it, and the lower chamber. It also comes with a water bottle with a filter in it, and the Berkey Primer (which Berkey now includes with all Go Berkey kits as of the beginning of 2017 according to their website). Finally, in order to hold it all together it comes with a very nice padded carrying case. The filter assembly assembles just like any other Berkey filter system (first picture). The filter goes in the top chamber (second picture), and sticks through a hole into the bottom chamber. Water is poured in the top and slowly drains through the filter to the bottom chamber. The capacity is not much, but I think it is an acceptable trade off for the portability. For travel, you can flip the top chamber over and store it inside the bottom. There is no need to remove the filter (third picture). The cap also fits on the bottom of the bottom chamber, leading to a very nice, compact little package. This all goes inside the bag, which has enough capacity for the filter assembly as well as the water bottle and the primer.Three bag is quite roomy, there is no need to cram everything in (fourth picture). It also is sturdy enough to stand up on its own (fifth picture). I could have done without a pocket for the water bottle to save a little room overall, but that is just a design choice, off they didn't include it somebody would complain that there wasn't a pocket for it. I have confidence that, if packed carefully, it will be protected while traveling. The priming tool is a very nice inclusion (sixth picture). If you use Berkey filters in any way you should have one. It really works a lot better then the standard way Berkey suggests that you prime your filters. It is a two way primer, so you can both prime and purge filters (you probably want to purge them before traveling or long term storage to avoid mold buildup, although I have no idea if this nasty reduce filter lifespan). I found the easiest way to prime the filters was to install it in the top chamber like you are going to use it, but to prime it from below to start the water flow. The included water bottle is not really that great, I have seen countless ones just like it in outdoor stores. It is not my preferred type of filter, it requires you to suck water through the filter, which is a lot more work then you might think. Ultimately it is a wash for me, I don't really care that they included it, I ultimately bought the kit for the Berkey. Maybe I will eventually find a use for it, probably just as a backup backup filter in my truck for emergencies.I am quite pleased with the Go Berkey, I feel like I got my money worth (sort of, Berkeys are quite spendy, they all seem about 1/3 more expensive then they should be). If you are looking to get into Berkey, this would be a great way to try them out, and could serve as a main drinking water filter if you are patient (at least until you break down and but a bigger one).

Everybody should own one

Not only is it Madewell these days it is definitely a must have. Especially if you’re traveling and you don’t know what kind of water you’re dealing with with all the alerts on public water these days. I think everybody should buy one and stand behind Berkeley.

Didnt need water bottle. Why sell only with please..?

Didnt need water bottle. Why only sell with please. Unnecessary expense/item to even hold onto. Not filtering enough for life travels to use or carry. Otherwise filter appears great and wise practical design, thanks 🙏

Cover NOT Secure

I'm a BIG fan of Berkey. I have a Big Berkey at home and recently I bought this kit for a canoe/camping trip. One of the first issues I noticed with the Go Berkey was the lid not being secure. Reluctantly, I decided to use it as my water source on the boat. Within the first hour after hitting a moderate rapid, the cover flew off my Go Berkey. I lost it in the river and can't find a replacement online because they are all sold out. It will be hard to use without a cover. There needs to be a clip or hinge to hold it in place. If Berkey added that, it would be a non-issue.

I have three sizes, The Go Berkey is my favorite

I have kidney issues so filter water is a must for me. I have three different sizes, One for home, one for my R.V. and one for travel. The Go Berkey is perfect for just me. I take it with me almost everywhere. It's small, and easy to just pick up and go. The water taste great, it's quick. and I no longer have to worry if I can get filter water.

Everyone should have a berkey

This may be the best investment I've ever made. Really not overstating and cant wait till I'm able to get a larger berkey. This one is great, just needs to be refilled often due to low capacity. I'm a lifelong tap water drinker and will never go back now. The berkey water is just so much better! You really begin to notice the taste different waters have. For example, my aunts house uses a soft water treatment system for their tap, and that goes into her berkey. Her finished berkey water tastes different than mine because of this. We live on the same block so it isnt municipal differences. The sport bottle works just as well as regular trickle filters...very nice all-in-one bottle for on the go. Only negatives is setting up, especially if you use the included primer. The small pieces are VERY hard to put together and I have no hand strength or dexterity issues. Of course the filter can be prepared without the priming pump tool, so not the biggest con.

This little guy saved the day ... and week ... and maybe our lives!

I purchased this Berkey travel kit 5 years ago. Put it with my emergency supplies, and forgot it. Until the bladder broke in my RO system storage tank. Oh no! Now I'm going to have to drink the disgusting, horrible tasting, polluted water that comes out of my municipal water tap until I can get the RO tank ordered, received, and installed. Then I remembered the Berkey travel kit that had been sitting on a shelf these past 5 years.Filled the "Sport Berkey" plastic water bottle with the muck that comes out of my faucets, took a draw on the pop-up plastic straw, and tasted pure, clean, wonderful water.Ok great! Now I had immediate relief for my parched, raspy throat, but needed more for other uses (like making coffee), too. So set up the beautiful, stainless steel mini gravity filter system and filled it with city water from the faucet. It took a while (about and hour) for the filter to prime, but eventually a drip started, and tasty, clean water began dripping into the stainless collection cup. I filled a half gallon pitcher of the filtered water for storage, and have been able to make enough clean water to keep the pitcher topped off. So now we have plenty of good water for myself, and my wife while we await the delivery and installation of the new RO tank.A true life saver, and am now thinking about tossing the RO system, and getting a big Berkey. However, whatever I do, I am very confident that the Berkey travel system will keep our drinking water clean and safe under any circumstance.

The Perfect Personal Filters For High-Class Vagabonds Who Appreciate A Tool That Is Rich With Bot...

I love this filter. It is a perfect personal water filter whether I'm at home or camping. I'm not interested in the plastic bottle, but I took out the filter, and packed it in my B.O.B. for an emergency filter.Once the bottle is removed, and the black filter unit is installed, the bag is too big for effectively packing, but it works perfect for my growler & Co2 tap kit. I used my Condor H2O Pouch I got on Amazon, and the filter with the Berkey Black Filter Primer fit perfectly with room to spare in the side pocket.I also love how it is made out of stainless steel making it super-durable. Plus I can use the bottom part as an emergency cooking pot for boiling water or whatever. So I got a padded pouch for my growler setup, a survival filter for my B.O.B., and an awesome everyday personal filter where the replaceable filters will last me close to a year of everyday use for only $150.What a deal!

Awesome, but takes an hour+ to fill the reservoir

I have only been able to get the berkey go to filter about half of it's reservoir, or two cups per hour. Would love to be able to clean a gallon of water per hour with this filter, any tips on achieving this? I primed the berkey with a condiment bottle as recommended by another review, have no desire to put the tap water here near this filter. The sport bottle is lovely too, we are using the berkey to filter stream water, Would like to make this our main source of water, would be great if we could manage to clean a half gallon at least per hour.We put a small shungite stone in the berkey bottle and I think it really made a difference in taste and purity, very sweet water.

am a little disappointed in this kit

am a little disappointed in this kit. First off, the water bottle is just a whole bunch of trouble to prime and rinse out the filter. Since part of my mouth is paralyzed, not sure if I can even use the straw with the filter. But one of the biggest problems I see, if you are trying to source water, how do you get it into the bottle and not ON the bottle? You have to be darn careful to not contaminate yourself with that water! The Stainless unit and filter are, as all things Berkey, extraordinary. I bought the black Berkey primer which is another story, and got the filter primed. Even new, with city tap water, it takes about 2-1/2 hours to filter that almost quart of water. So if you are desperate for a drink, you will just have to wait. I've got a household use for this, and now that I've gotten it down some, its working great. But also wanted this for when we travel so we're not buying bottle water everywhere and I'm not sure that its going to be what I want. I'm not hanging around my hotel room for the hours necessary to filter a gallon of drinking water we need for the day! I might be able to get enough done between the evening and over night to have our coffee and tea in the morning, but that would likely be all I'd get filtered. Maybe another quart before we're on our way! Still, anything is better than nothing.

Clean, clear water

I camp a lot in Florida where the water is heavy with sulfur. So I run everything through this filter and it comes out sulfur-free and delicious. I've used it on pond water too and it's done great. It does require some groundwork ahead of time by way of priming the filter - if you don't do that then water won't be able to flow properly through the filter - but it's also possible to partially prime it in the field by soaking it in water for a few hours. It's a slow unit; it's really meant to provide drinking water for one or two people maximum. But the small size makes it easy to throw in a pack so it's my go-to purifier for any camping trip.

Go Berkey

The Berkey works as promised. The travel bottle with filter leaves a lot to be desired. The design of the cap is the problem, on mine it was pinching the straw so that nothing was coming through. Once I corrected that it worked fine. The Berkey itself gives good clean tasting water. I purchased a large glass canister with a spigot to put n the fridge after the water has been filtered. Works like a charm. For my needs I think I'll eventually purchase a larger size Berkey. While this one works fine it is a chore to constantly be filling for filtration. And I would prefer to have the fluoride filters only available with the larger model. Shipping from this seller was fast and met my expectations.

My sports bottle does not work at all.

I really like the Berkey portable...it will be nice to take to the camper but it came WITH the spors bottle and that is where the trouble lies. It totally does not work. I can't get any water through the straw . It says to fill it with water and squeeze the bottle....well it just comes out around the lid and not the straw. I tried everything i know to do. Even tried drinking through the straw and nothing. It's so cheap. I'd like a good sports bottle to take hiking and fill out of our beautiful streams here but not this one. And I don't really know how to send it back. It came as a set with the Berkey. So my rating is no stars for the sports bottle but four for the Berkey. And the seller did wonderfully! My items were here in mere days!

A wonderful and superior product

I have had my portable "Go" Berkey for several months now and take it with me everywhere I travel. Hotels in the US, friends houses, foreign destinations - everywhere! In fact, I like it so much, that I then purchased the "Big Berkey" that holds 2.25 gallons. I was so impressed with this, that I then purchased the Colossal "Crown" Berkey that holds 6.5 gallons! My 6 member family is happy with all three and they are an indispensable part of our lives. We emphasize copious water consumption and these the most logical, efficient and cost effective means of accomplishing this.We have missionary friends in primitive areas of India and Africa who have also found the Berkey system to play a critical role in their lives. Everyone is happy with its performance.Regarding those who say it "leaks", I can authoritatively say that the spigot only leaks for those who don't know how to "screw a lid on tight" or don't know how to properly connect a hose onto a faucet. The only "leak" issue that potential purchasers will need to be prepared for, is that it can be overfilled, causing the water to leak out between the upper and lower chambers.Obviously, if the upper chamber is overfilled, it will cause the lower chamber to overfill, resulting in a overflow between the two. This is only a problem for those who are unprepared.Screw on the spigot well and don't overfill, and you won't have any problems. This is truly a professional product, that is NOT just a water filter - it is a very sophisticated water purifier. It does what it is supposed to do and does it very, very well. It is exceptionally well built and performs flawlessly.Don't be misled by those who are misinformed and don't know the basic fundamentals of how to screw on a faucet. I now own three of them and have no regrets. It's operation is simple. It's performance is stellar. It's quality is unrivaled. And the end product is truly life saving!Buy it with confidence. Use it with unbridled trust. Foreign workers all over the world depend on it and you can too!
