The theory behind this bottle innovation is simple. The Sport Berkey's filter is designed to bring the filtration power of the Berkey countertop systems and make it easy to carry and portable. The filter used in the Sport Berkey is operable for up to 640 refills for tap water based upon the quality of influent water.

This superior technology used in the Sport Berkey portable water filter was developed, refined, and improved through investigative laboratory testing and field research. Our team of water filter experts, field engineers, and research specialists have developed this filtration process over countless hours of testing and research. The media in the water filtering element addresses contaminants by the surface phenomenon known as "adsorption," which results from molecules' molecular attraction to the media's surface.

Care and Use

Pour water into the Sport Berkey and securely tighten the cap to eliminate leaks. Pull down the loop on the lid to extend the straw and squeeze the bottle. This will force water through the filter and the straw. Empty as much of the bottle as possible. Repeat this process two times. This process flushes manufacturing dust from the filter. After two flushes, rinse the bottle and cap. Your water bottle is now ready for use!

Maintenance and Storage of your Sport Berkey

The Sport Berkey Portable Water Filter has a storage shelf life of 50 years. When you will not be using the system for an extended period of time, it is important to remove the filter. With the filter removed, flush the bottle with one of the following:

• 1/4tsp non-scented/non-enhanced* chlorine bleach per one half gallon of water

• 50/50 mixture of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide and water.

Once the bottle has been flushed, rinse with water. Allow all parts to thoroughly air dry before re-assembling. Seal the bottle in an airtight container if possible.

Do not allow the filter to freeze. Freezing can damage the filter and will require replacement. This filter is not microwave safe and is not designed to filter water hotter than 95º F.

**Please note that effective March 24th, 2016, the Sport Berkey® Water Filtration Bottle was updated. The new element is the same except that it has a larger tapered straw connection. The functionality of the Sport Berkey® is unchanged. If you purchased your Sport Berkey® Water Filtration Bottle prior to March 24th, 2016 and want to order a replacement filter(s) you will need to order a new bottle as the new and old systems are not compatible (i.e. the new replacement filters will not fit the older model Sport Berkey®bottle).
