arrived damaged

This product arrived with a large dent in the upper chamber. The box was in pristine condition so in my opinion, it happened at the factory and was shipped anyway. The lack of pride in what was being shipped is why I only gave it 4 stars. It would have been different if I was paying for "scratch and dent" but that's not the case. The filter does work fine and will suit our needs, had it not been damaged this would have been easily a 5 star product.

The best water filter I've ever had

This is the BEST water filter system we have ever had. We live in a state where the water quality is crap and literally makes me sick when I drink it (serious heartburn, upset stomach, nausea, etc.) I spent a year going to GI doctors who couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. I'm not a native to this state and no one else they treated was having an issue like I was. When I asked them if the water could be the culprit of my symptoms (they seemed to start every time I drank the tap water, even when filtered with a Britta) they laughed me out of the office saying, "water can't do that." We tried cheaper water filters and it helped a little but I was still getting sick. So I switched to drinking distilled water and the problems went away. But distilled water can be very pricey when you're having to buy it in bulk and it's not the greatest thing for you to drink/cook with long term. My mother told me about Berkey and how great hers was so I did some research on them and decided it was worth a try. Voila! No more being sick all the time and no more having to buy distilled water in bulk. This thing is a game changer. It was super easy to assemble and holds a LOT of water. The only issue we had with it was a small leak at the spigot that we were able to fix by flipping one of the washers around (we received one flat and one concaved washer instead of two flat ones for the spigot).

Great customer service!

Editing my review! They sent me the replacement piece and it fixed it! Great customer service. Was really excited for this, but it leaks around the spigot. I have reached out to Berkey for assistance and they are sending me a new spigot. I have the plastic spigot, and honestly the spigot quality is better on the $5 Walmart water dispenser that I have. I’m not too keen on shelling out more money for a stainless steel Berkey spigot when I’ve already spent hundreds on this product. The provided spigot should work.I will update my review if the new spigot that Berkey sends me fixes it, but I may be replacing it with the Walmart spigot and making a Frankenstein Berkey if it doesn’t 🤷‍♀️

Clean water finally!!!

I’ve been wanting a turkey for a while and I’m so glad I made the investment you should too!

The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the spigot leaks.

I LOVE my crown Berkey. It is just me and my hubby and we go through a lot water from drinking and cooking. I replaced the "leaky spigot" that came original to this Berkey by ordering a new one with the site glass.- All is well now.

Good Clean Fresh Water

Bought this to replace tap water. I don't trust the cleanliness of tap water with out some sort of filtration system. This is cheaper then adding a filtration system. Does a great job and has no bad taste to the water.

Great product but cheap spigot

I would have given it a 5 stars, but the spigot is made of cheap plastic and did not stop leaking. I had to order a better quality spigot from a different vendor to install on this. It is unfortunate that for such a high quality product you would choose such a low quality spigot. Other than that, I am very satisfied with my purchase

Filter priming tip

I’m very happy with this purchase- I did have sticker shock, but if it does what it says it does…I’m using it for everything: us drinking, cooking, the dogs, the plants, coffee and tea. We are very happy.Filter priming- first- for spending $1k on this, include the dang filter primer pump. But, I get it, you need to make as much money off the non “preppers”.Using a plastic water/soda bottle, drill a hole in the cap (1/8” is fine). Fill with tap water. Assemble the filter as directions state, but rather than put to the tap, put the bottle on and squeeze. You will see the filter “sweat” in seconds. Repeat for all filters. This was WAY easier than the “hold to the faucet”. That dumb way shot water everywhere and didn’t have the pressure to “sweat”.This tip should be include in the instructions- especially considering some of the other nonsense included.I like the filter. I like the flavor. I like the peace of mind. I don’t like the hype. Hope this helps.

Great product water taste amazing after using this

Finally I can drink water and feel good about it. I even ordered a travel size one to for emergency use. Def something every home should have. Our bodies are made mostly of water so putting the cleanest kind in you is essential for good quality of life. Worth every penny. Many YouTube videos easy to follow for setup

I love my Berkey!

I had a travel size but we needed to fill it several times a day. This one lasts several days and fits our active lifestyle. We purchased a 3rd one that is one size smaller for our lake house as I didn't want to part with this one.... but probably should have paid the extra to have purchased a 2nd one this big.

Pure water without the monthly bill

Berkey Water Filter works well. We now enjoy pure, great tasting water without the outrageous monthly bill we paid for so long to have water delivered. Sorry I waited to try this. It will save a bundle of money over the years. Quick to assemble, then fill it and you're done. Filters out all sorts of hazardous material from the tap water for crystal clarity. You can even purify pond water with it! Highly recommend it.

Pure water- large capacity- gravity feed

The filtered water tastes very clean and pure. Although it is large and takes up vertical space (29.5" for the big Berkey), it's not unattractive. Do NOT overfill as the lower fill tank WILL leak if you do. You fill the upper tank (where filters set), in proportion to how much is in the lower tank. For the price, this should come WITH a gauge spigot (shows water level). We had to order one because our's is sitting atop a counter and a step stool is required to look inside to see water level. We placed the spigot over the sink for easy fill. The pour runs fast. The filters are easily 'primed' with the small rubber(?) washer. To prime: hold tightly between filter and the faucet and flush with a stream of water. Only takes seconds to make the filter 'sweat". The washer is provided. We like the gravity feed rather than electrical or battery operated systems. The big Berkey has capacity for 8 filters, but we only use 2 at a time and store a few more for future use. For now we are filtering water from a city well. But we do collect water and we'll use the Berkey to filter if needed. We'll update as the months go by.Update and tip: when refilling it may require re-priming/flushing the filters to speed-up water filtration. Also, since our Berkey is atop The counter, we are using the Berkey cover as a mirror to see the water level so we don't over-fill.

PERFECT for a large family!

I had previously been buying water from the $.35/gal machines and constantly forgetting to refill my 5 gallon jugs...I LOVE this Berkey! It holds about 5 gallons of water and filters overnight. It was easy to put together and if I want to buy more filters so it filters faster, I can!! The water filters SO clean!!! My husband even suggested we take it with us when we go camping in 2 weeks, so we don't have to pack as much drinking water, but instead, gather it from the large creek that runs through our site...When the Berkey first showed up on my door step, I was a little bit panniked, thinking that I had bought the wrong size... it came in such a small box... but the top canister was nestled inside of the bottom canister, with all the small pieces inside of that... I could not be happier with this awesome water filter!

Very Good, Not Perfect

My old water distiler broke after 10 years of use. I wanted a replacement water purifier system that didn't use $60/mo. of electricity (HI elec rates). I chose the Crown Berkey. After 2 weeks of using the black charcoal filter, I decided that I didn't care for the taste. It's better than tap, but not as good as distilled. I purchased 4 7" white ceramic filters and now the water tastes better, but still not as good as distilled, but still good enough for me now.Cons:1. Taste. Standard charcoal filters are not good enough for me. Ceramic is better, but adds cost.BTW I called Berkey customer service and they did have a bad batch of charcoal filters in April and May of 2011. They fixed the problem and to indicate the fix, new filters have a black grey (not just black) base color with ribbing/manufacturing marks.2. Flow rate.Berkey claims that a Crown Berkey with 2 black filters has a "flow rate" of 6 gallons per hour. Misleading. Perhaps _initial_ flow "rate" is 6 gph, but it will take 6+ hours to filter 6 gallons. With the 4 7" white ceramic filter setup, the flow is much better, but still nowhere close to 6 gph.BTW, I called Berkey customer service and they gave instructions on how to clean the outside of the filter and prime it. These procedures helped but did not solve the flow rate problem completely.3. Capacity. The Crown Berkey has a capacity of 6 gallons in the unfiltered section, but each filter you put in takes away roughly 1/4 a gallon of capacity. Thus a 2 filter system has a net capacity of 5.5 gallons and my 4 filter setup 5.0 gallons.4. Taste.Yes, I'm picky. I've been drinking distilled water for 10 years and HI tap water tastes awful to me. If HI tap water is 2/5 stars, then charcoal Berkey is 3/5, ceramic Berkey is 4/5 and distilled is 5/5.5. Size. The ideal placement of the Crown Berkey is 12" above the kitchen counter. This allows you to leave the valve open and fill up pitchers and gallon-sized containers. Filling it is a chore and requires the use of a stepladder and you carrying pitchers of tap water.Pros:A. Cost. The longevity of the filters make the Berkey system very cost-effective.B. Quality of Construction. The Berkey stainless steel materials are of very high quality.C. Quality of Water.I can see the minerals the filters trap when I clean them. It seems to be doing a good job. Conclusion:The Crown Berkey system is very good, but not perfect.

Berkey Water Filters are outstanding!

I received my Berkey anxiously and put it to work immediately. My water smells "swampy" right out of the tap. The smell is removed once filtered. I am pleased to report that this product operates as described. The stainless steel dispenser is pleasing to the eye. I did elect to get the optional sight glass. However, I removed it and put back the original spigot. The sight glass starts to leak out of the top of the sight glass when more than approximately 3 gallons are in the bottom tank. I prefer to fill my Berkey at night and have it filter while I sleep. All of my water for cooking goes through the Berkey. I have a ppm meter but haven't recorded the difference between the Berkey, Tap and Ozarka (Delivered Water). The smell test is enough for me to use the water for cooking/coffee. I am more interested in Fluoride removal and will buy the appropriate filters for that purpose in the future. I highly recommend this system.

Superb and easy to assemble

I ordered the Crown Berkey last year and have been using it since then.It arrived within the specified time in great condition. I had ordered 2 additional black ceramic filters to use in the Berkey and those arrived in the same package as well.It is so easy to assemble..I had it together in less than half an hour.No electricity required for the Berkey to do its job and those ceramic filters last for years with minimal cleanup required every few months. The water from the Berkey definitely tastes better than water straight from the tap.It is easy to refill...although I don't have a sink hose that can be used to add water directly to the Berkey, it is no problem using a jug to add water.Since I have the Berkey kept on my kitchen counter, it is not possible to look into the chamber from above unless I hop onto a chair or something but instead, I just hold the reflective lid above the Berkey to see what the water level is at.The Berkey has already paid itself off. I don't understand how people can continuously buy those gallon bottled water seeing that it all adds up expense wise and also all that plastic is detrimental to the environment. Also, who knows whether that bottled water actually lives up to the claims on the labels.I just need to get 2 Fluoride filters to add into the Berkey and then I will be all set.Everyone should own a Berkey.
