Sturdy and efficient but no water gauge!

The media could not be loaded.

We have terrible smelling water so I purchased this at the recommendation of others that have this product. The system filters the smell and taste of the water really well. It is a very sturdy stainless steel and looks great with stainless appliances. The water flow is good since I don’t have anything to compare it to. You could travel with it but it does take up a good amount of space. My only complaint is that you don’t know how much water is in the lower compartment so if you add too much water to the top, it spills out between the levels. I wish it had a glass window at the bottom to see how much filtered water remains.

Genuinely pleased

* Great for 7 months. * IMPORTANT: Prime filters (5 min water) for good flow. * Storage (was out of town) - Clean reservoir, let filters dry. Upon return, lazy didn't re-prime filters so REALLY slowed flow after storage. * Drank tap water because Berkey was so slow. Realized how BAD it tastes (had never notice before). * Re-priming fixed slow processing. * 2.5-gallon fills in ~30 minutes. * VERY pleased with performance. * Will track water use for 6,000-gallon filter life. * Amazon stand makes dispensing easier.* Expensive upfront cost BUT well worth it due to taste, convenience, low long

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!

The water you will drink from the Berkey WILL taste SO MUCH BETTER than any other filter and especially tap, I guarantee it! If silk had a flavor it would taste like this water. Everyone (including the kids) in my house is drinking more water because it’s so good! It is pricey BUT totally worth it IMO. It filters quickly even with only two of the filters installed so you don’t have to sit around and wait forever for the water to be available. We have 4 people in our household and it’s the perfect size for us. We use it for drinking water and cooking. I was honestly worried that it would look big and bulky on the counter and make everything feel a little cluttered but it’s a lot more sleek than I had pictured and rather like it! The second picture has a 40 ounce tumbler for size reference. It’s very sturdy and the filters are very clearly excellent quality. The quality of the city water where we live is awful, smells like pool water and tastes like it too. I HATED that my kids were drinking it every day so I splurged on this for the sake of their health and I am SO HAPPY I DID!!

Great investment

My husband and I decided to purchase a water filter after the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment. We didn't want to go with the typical, mainstream brita water filter or the one that connects to a faucet. We have had those before and the filter has to be changed frequently. We liked that the Berkey filters out forever chemicals, specifically the chemicals spilled during the derailment. It also filters out over 200 contaminants, chemicals and bacteria. Setup was fairly easy, however priming the elements was challenging due to the adapter that fit onto our faucet which was a struggle. The life span of the filters is amazing, as they only need to be changed every 11,000 gallons. Although the filters are pricey, around $170ish for 2, they are worth it in the long run. Using the filter is easy. Once set up, just pour water in the top, put the lid back on and you're good to go. Quality of the materials is unmatched. We purchased a stand off Amazon that elevates the element, which you definitely need. Hoping to get the stainless steel spigot soon to replace the plastic one that came with the product.Lastly, I have to say the water tastes AMAZING. Like water should taste. It rivals the taste of Fiji, our preferred bottled water. Our family initially made fun of us for spending so much money on a water filter, but once they tasted it they plan on purchasing one. I was never a big water drinker before, but now I find myself drinking lots of it. We fill up multiple containers of it whenever we leave the house. Great product, give it a try!

Produces water fast and efficiently!

We like our Big Berkey. It makes water fast and easy. We had a leased reverse osmosis system for over 30 years. The water tasted better with RO if I have to be honest. And we are using 4 black filters in the Berkey, and are on a municipal water source. The other thing I have noticed is the mineral deposit/build up in our teapot and dogs water bowls, since deploying the Berkey. This is all okay with us, as the upside is, unlike the RO, this is on the countertop. The RO 3 times leaked under our kitchen cabinet, ruining the cabinet. We just remodeled our kitchen, with custom cabinets, and we decided no more leaks from a RO system. The trade off for more minerals, not as good tasting water, is the zero potential for leaking. We are not complaining about the Berkey..just giving our honest opinion. In the event of a disaster, we hope the claims that it will filter out bad stuff is true. We have well water here on our property that has never been tested and we use for horses water and gardening. It would be our fall back if the municipal water was shutoff or cut off in a disaster, and the Berkey would be our filtration for drinking....The Berkey is easy to fill, and doesn’t waste water to make water(which a RO does). We purchased 2 extra black filters, so it produces water quickly. We also got the sight glass and a black plant stand. I placed this next to my sink. When I purposely overfill, it just drips into the sink, so no mess on the countertop!I would recommend the Big Berkey, I don’t know of any other system that can deliver clean water so efficiently and cost effective. It also is beautiful to look at!

Good stuff

It looks good and it has a decent manufacturing quality.Easy to set-up clear instructions. The filtered water has no taste, no smell....and that's awesomeWhat's bothering is you don't know the level of the filtered water in to the lower chamber. If you add to much water in to the upper chamber it would spill over

Best choice!

Bought Feb 22, 2025: still leaks from the spicket. So it has to stay on my little sink area. That’s really not good since the area is so small and I bought it to go else where. It’s very good besides that. Easy to clean and pour and it makes getting water easily accessible for my child. The stainless steel means it’s long lasting. Love the look. The filter is lasting a long time and I leave by the ocean. So cleaning the filers hasn’t need to be done since I bought it. It’s September now. The package came with a blue facet piece to clean the filters and it’s better than the brown rings before. No other complaints other than the spiked leaking. Strange cause I bought a new one after moving and the first one doesn’t leak at all

One of the best purchases I've made for my home

I absolutely love my Big Berkey! The water tastes clean, and refreshing. I feel so much better knowing my family is drinking filtered water free of chlorine, heavy metals, and contaminants. The stainless steel design looks sleek on the counter, and even guests ask about it. It's a bit of an investment, but worth every penny. Easy to assemble, no power needed, and I trust what's coming our of the spigot. Highly recommend!

Very pricy, but a very good product.

This works great. There isn’t even a hint of chlorine in the taste of the water. My only complaint is I can’t for the life of me understand why they are so expensive. They do the job but at a price.

Makes the best water and ice!

This is the second one of these we have ordered. My husband ordered the first one over my objections to the price, but as soon as I put this water into my countertop ice maker, I was 100% sold on the quality and value. Because this filters out all the junk, the ice is very soft and chewable, and I love it. I also can really tell a difference between the filtered water and ice that come out of our refrigerator and this water/ice. This is soooo much better. So I bought one for my mother as well. Easy to use, easy to clean, and great water.

Water tastes good; some annoying issues

Assembly instructions could be more clear and updated to accurately reflect the parts sent. I watched some videos made by a guy in the U.K. and also by a couple of homemakers in the U.S., all of which were very helpful. One thing I didn't understand ahead of time, which might have affected my decision to purchase a Burkey--apparently, the filters aren't supposed to "dry out." I'm not sure how long "drying out" takes, but it's only my husband and I here now. We're retired and we won't be going through gallons of water every day. In addition, we do travel a fair bit--a week here, two weeks there, another week a month later... If I understand correctly, we're supposed to disassemble the upper unit (where the filters are) every time we will be gone longer than a couple of days and then upon return, we'll need to prime the filters over again.I'm not ready to admit to myself that I made a poor purchase, but this revelation wasn't happy news for us.

Worthwhile purchase

After caving to the pressure of family and friends to order this water filter, I couldn't be more pleased with it and kicking myself for putting it off for too long. It's easy to assemble (be sure to really tighten the tap!), it fits on my kitchen counter well, and the water tastes exactly how clean, fresh water should taste. Being raised in a city with artesian well water, I got spoiled and have not been able to drink tap water in any other city I've lived in. No more lugging gallons of bottled water home every week or two, no more chemical tasting tap water. The only thing I'm second guessing is that I probably could have done just as well with a Travel Berkey rather than the Big Berkey, being a one-person household. Otherwise, I'm very pleased and would encourage ditching the environmentally irresponsible plastic bottles, questionable bottled water quality, and go for a unit that you can trust. In my case it will pay for itself in just over a year. The filters may be costly but they last a very long time. I won't need to replace them for many, many years. I definitely recommend Berkey water filtration systems.

Convenient and easy to use

We've been using 5 gallon containers of water in a water dispenser for many years, but a series of injuries has made it more and more difficult to go fill up the containers and bring them home. A few months ago, my husband decided that it was time to invest in a Berkey. We went back and forth on what size to get, and we thought the Big Berkey would be a good size for our family of three. I liked the idea of the unit not taking up too much space. It stands approximately 20" tall (with knob on lid) and is 8 1/2" in diameter. After using it for several months, I would definitely get a bigger unit if we were to do it again as we refill it multiple times a day. (We go through a lot more water than we originally thought as we're also using the filtered water for coffee, tea, hot chocolate....) I'm thankful that we went ahead and purchased the

BIG Berkey Water View Sight Glass

as it makes it very easy to make sure we have water at all times. As soon as the water level shows as low, we add more water. The set-up was quick and easy. We're quite pleased with the resulting taste of the water. Our water around here is awful, and the Berkey does a great job filtering out a lot of the impurities and salt which leads to a better tasting water. It's definitely a more convenient option for getting filtered water. We wish we would have made the investment sooner. If you go through a lot of water or have a larger family, you'll want to go with a larger unit unless you're okay with filling it several times a day. The water does get filtered fairly quickly, so it is possible to make due with a smaller unit as long as everyone doesn't need water at the same time.
